Twelve Apostles

Witness the rugged splendour of the famous 12 Apostles, magnificent rock stacks that rise majestically from the Southern Ocean on Victoria’s dramatic coastline. Created by constant erosion of the limestone cliffs of the mainland beginning 10–20 million years ago, the stormy Southern Ocean and blasting winds gradually eroded the softer limestone, forming caves in the cliffs. The caves eventually became arches, and when they collapsed, rock stacks up to 45 metres high were left isolated from the shore.

Loch Ard Gorge

A treasure trove of natural beauty, coastal wilderness and maritime history. Take time to wander the trails, exploring the blowholes, offshore limestone stacks and towering cliffs. Visit at dusk to watch the short-tailed shearwaters (muttonbirds) fly home. Hear the story of the Loch Ard shipwreck and learn about the area’s rich maritime history at the nearby Port Campbell Visitor Information Centre.

You can walk down these steps to the beach below for the most amazing views.

Apollo Bay

We stop here for lunch. Apollo Bay has a wide selection of restaurants and cafes, including a bakery, seafood, Italian, American Diner, and Chinese restaurants. You are also free to bring your packed lunch and enjoy it on one of the picnic benches across the road.

Teddy’s Lookout

Our favourite stop will take your breath away as it is the highest point on our tour.

  We loved every part of our day on this wonderful private tour (Great Ocean Road) with Melvin!  The booking process was easy as Melvin was quick to respond and arrangements could be made quickly.  Melvin was gracious to accommodate us with only a few days notice; he picked us up at the front door of our apartment and spent the day driving us around the Great Ocean Road tour which included the Twelve Apostles/Port Campbell National Park, Gorges Chocolates and alpaca farm, a bakery, and the Great Otway National Forest.  Melvin knows all the best spots and how to avoid crowds, is a careful and skilled driver (especially on those windy, challenging roadways), and knows an abundance about the area and its history, along with up-to-date happenings. We had such delightful conversations throughout the day and it was our sincere pleasure to meet Melvin and spend time with him.  It was also relaxing to not have to drive a rental car (especially as Americans and having to drive on the left side of the road!) and we could just enjoy the magnificent scenery.  Melvin's Mercedes is extremely comfortable and he has water and wifi available (who needs wifi on such a gorgeous trip?).  He was patient in waiting for us while we viewed the sights and also for lunch in Fort Campbell, as well as flexible in what to see along the way. It was a long day but one of our most memorable while visiting Melbourne - a huge thank you to Melvin for being a fantastic driver and tour guide! We can't wait to return to Melbourne and book him again for another fun excursion - we highly recommend booking him for any trip.

  Melvin is a fantastic fun tour guide. He knows all the ‘boutique’ vineyard and also good places to go. If you are looking for less touristy places and want some exquisiteness, don’t hesitate to find him !

  Absolutely loved our experience of the day trip to the Great Ocean Road. We booked the private tour as we were traveling with kids and weren’t sure about the pace of the larger tours.
